Environment Artist

Location: Remote

Bad Rhino Studios is seeking a talented Environment Artist to join our team. As an Environment Artist, you will work closely with designers, engineers and artists to create convincing, visually stunning game environments, models, textures, and materials. You will work closely with the Art Director to maintain visual consistency, production deadlines, and project goals. You will also be required to setup material graphs within Unreal Engine 4. Knowledge of creating materials within Substance Designer is a huge plus.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Art Director and environment team to ensure artistic consistency
  • Use a combination of modeling, texturing, and set dressing/world building skills to create 2D and 3D assets
  • Work closely with designers and artists to ensure that gameplay spaces look visually interesting and are fun to play
  • Help plan out and develop environments and environment assets from prototype to final art quality
  • Help create a strong vision for individual environments by collaborating closely with artists, designers, and engineers
  • Create visually cohesive materials and textures for use in a PBR-based workflow

Requirements

  • A strong portfolio that demonstrates experience modeling, texturing, and set dressing environments for games
  • Excellent communication skills. Must be able to thrive in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment and both give and take direction well
  • Demonstrated experience working with modern FPS engines (CryEngine, Unreal, etc.) and modern art pipelines
  • Strong work ethic and ability to maintain high quality and consistent progress without constant supervision
  • Must be comfortable taking on responsibility for development of complex environments while pushing the visual quality bar
  • 5+ years of experience in game development
  • One or more shipped titles on multiple platforms is a plus

Preferences

  • Experience working with a variety of modern art pipelines including modular, organic and hard surface construction
  • Experience with SideFX Houdini
  • A passion for games
  • Demonstrated experience working with realistic and hyper-realistic art styles
  • Experience with AAA First or Third Person action titles a big plus
  • Experience in creating highly optimized, tileable, PBR materials
